In this webinar, faculty and leaders from Educator Preparation Programs will explore practical tools and strategies for developing a clear program vision and intentionally mapping coursework and syllabi to support that vision. Expert facilitators will introduce tools to guide program-wide conversations and share concrete examples from the field. Participants will also examine common challenges—such as building shared knowledge, reaching faculty consensus, and strengthening connections with school partners—and learn practical approaches for fostering greater coherence across programs. Time will be reserved for a meet and greet with TRL’s EPP Specialists, with time reserved for questions about The Reading League’s Educator Preparation Program Partnerships.

Meet the Presenters

Dr. Doreen Mazzye, TRL EPP Specialist and Trainer, is a literacy professor and coordinator of Childhood Undergraduate and MST Programs in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at SUNY Oswego. Dr. Mazzye served as a founding board member of The Reading League and is currently a board member of Stronger Together Alliance for Reading Science in Higher Education. She draws on her experience as both an inclusive classroom teacher and a parent of a child with dyslexia to champion structured literacy instruction for all students. Dr. Mazzye regularly presents and publishes on the science of reading in the fields of educator preparation and professional development.

Dr. Cara McDermott-Fasy, TRL EPP Specialist and Trainer, is a professor in the Department of Special Education at Rhode Island College. She serves as the co-coordinator of the undergraduate Elementary/Special Education Program and coordinator of the graduate Literacy/Dyslexia Endorsement. Cara has worked extensively on initiatives related to MTSS, literacy/dyslexia, and preservice teacher preparation at the local, regional, and national levels. She is passionate about embracing a de-siloed approach to syllabi refinement, which forefronts a scope and sequence perspective.
